WordPress tips and other odds and ends.

I received a great WordPress tip the other day.  It is related to setting up your WordPress site.  I have been setting up these sites for quite a while now, but every now and again, I find myself forgetting to add something in.  Also, as I have mentioned before, I am totally self taught, so know jolly well that there are things I have missed, simply because I did not know what questions to ask or search terms to use in the first place.  In addition, things keep changing and new stuff keeps being added to the huge amount of information available on the net.

So I recommend that you have a look at the fantastic WordPress checklist that is available.  If you go to the “get PDF version” tab at the top, you can add you details and you will be able to download the PDF version as well as a couple of other useful and related items.

I have actually copied and pasted the information to an Open Office document and am in the process of adding in a list of my favorite plugins along with related information. Obviously you can modify the WordPress checklist anyway you wish.

Here is another useful tip for you.  I really wanted a whiteboard, but needed one in a very specific size as I only had one spot on my wall where it could go.  Needless to say (over and above the fact that these things cost quite a bit) I could not find the right size.  BUT… I did have a nice piece of glass (an old window pane) stored in my garage that was the perfect size, so I spray painted the back of it white and then mounted it on the wall using mirror corners.  It works just great!

I have really had my head down the last couple of weeks with the review/training project that I (and a few others) have been doing for Bertus Engelbrecht.  You can read more about it under the Internet Marketing Training category.  This is proving to be a really interesting exercise, and I am enjoying it thoroughly.

One of the things that is happening as a result of the training is that it is forcing me to finally do something that I have wanted to do for a long time and have just never done.  I love everything related to video, particularly video marketing.  I am now in the process of writing my first Internet Marketing related ebook.  I have written others before, but they have been related to niche markets.  This particular one is about Video Marketing and Video SEO (Search Engine Optimization), so I am quite excited about that.

Oooh, almost forgot.  Here is another tip I picked up very recently.  It is essential to keep all your link colors the same throughout and to not use those same colors elsewhere in your site.  This will make your links stand out more and encourage visitors to your site to click on them.  Since my sites main colors are Red and yellow, I decided to cool things down a bit and use green as my link colors.  Just remember to avoid using your link color for something that is not clickable.

For those of you who are interested in learning more about color in website design you can click on this link to read a great article and here is a link to my favorite site for finding the hex and RGB color codes that I want use.
